Need some advice. I need to replace (one) cylinder/piston set, but thought that it would be a good time to replace the entire set with an upgraded 96mm bore set. What do you think?
There are some sources out there for sets, both well known and some not too well known. Anyone have any experiences good or bad?

Thanks!

The new sets that are out there are either made in China or Brazil. The quality of the cylinders is not good. Jake Raby sells bored German cylinders w/ new KB pistons. Here is a link:

Here they are in order of higher quality/cost first, lowest quality/cost last:

1. German cylinders bored to 96 with JE pistons.
2. German cylinders bored to 96 with Keith Black pistons.
3. Chinese pistons and cylinders.

There are other combos as well, but those are the biggies.

Actually- For a street engine the KB piston with the rings I use FAR supercedes the JE piston. The JEs burn oil, rattle when cold and require too loose of skirt clearance for expansion inside iron cylinders.

After 4 years of the KB pistons I still have never had one fail from an RPM related issue- I turn them 8300 in my hybrid 2316 on a daily basis!

Thanks for the correction Jake. biggrin.gif
