Complete strut assembly.
bkrantz
Installed in the car, starting with the top, and then inserting the ball joint stud into the bottom of the strut.
bkrantz
Shiny top hardware!
bkrantz
All done.

And the front A-arm cap. I did not get the correct new bolts, so have to order those. (Please stop my OCD!)

No OCD....you definitely need new shiny azz bolts if you've gone this far. Nice

Yup. Another hardware order going in this week.

I may end up driving this car only indoors.

I wouldn't blame you.

Thanks, Ben. Too late to change my habits now. blink.gif

I took care of one thing I forgot to do when prepping the left strut housing: cleaning the powder-coating from the caliper contact surfaces. I did that on the car with a wire brush in my drill.
bkrantz
Last suspension component on the left, torsion bar. Here are the original stock bars.
bkrantz
Must remember L and R!
bkrantz
Left bar going into the A-arm. It took a bit of tapping to get it seated in the front socket.
bkrantz
New gasket.
bkrantz
And the adjuster cap. More shiny!

Will you document the indexing of the torsion bar when the time comes? I need to do that on the Willow car.

I only had 2 or maybe 3 positions (notches) to choose from when putting on the caps, and did what the manual describes: put the cap on with the lever arm as close to the top of the recess as possible. For now, I cranked the adjuster screws just slightly past making contact.

Going back to photos I took during disassembly, the tie rods had about 1/4 inch of threads exposed on both the yoke end and the ball joint end, so I set the new rods to be the same, and installed the ball joint stud into the steering arm. Still waiting on new bolts for the tie rod collars.
bkrantz
Getting more complete. Right side.
bkrantz
Hardware for the front sway bar, with new bushings from 914 Rubber.
bkrantz
Sway bar inserted with new bushings.
bkrantz
Bushing bracket snugged up.
bkrantz
Then sway bar arms.
bkrantz
Plus clamping hardware.
bkrantz
And then the drop link with new bushings.
bkrantz
Right side, too. Front suspension is essentially done.

Always looks great Bob....especially when I'm banging my head on my own different cars projects.

You should get your kids to help. Kids like power tools! sawzall-smiley.gif

A shout out to Marquis and all the folks at PMB. The SS hard line kit I got from them had the wrong sections for the front calipers, and Marquis sent the correct ones as soon as I inquired. He also sent the T-adapter I forgot to remove from my pressure valve when I sent it for PMB to rebuild.
bkrantz
The T-adaptor goes here.
bkrantz
And now I have all the brake system that mounts to the chassis done.
bkrantz
I grabbed the box with seat belt parts to see what I am missed. I posted a WTB for some hardware.

A new set of "press" decals will brighten up the receivers.

A new set of "press" decals will brighten up the receivers.

Got 'em from the 914 Rubber Black long weekend sale.
bkrantz
Today, first a few detail bits. Some new speed nuts for the relay board mount.
bkrantz
And then I could install the board--and plug in one cable. I need to find a couple of retaining clips.
bkrantz
Then the new grills and filters for the door jamb air vents. But these seem to lack a retainer for keeping the filter on the central spike.
bkrantz
I found some scrap stiff rubber sheet, and got my hole punch set.
bkrantz
These should help keep the filters attached to the grills.
bkrantz
Grills installed.
bkrantz
Then the main business of the day: testing all the electric motors. Here is the heater blower--it runs!
bkrantz
Then the wiper motor--it runs, too.
bkrantz
Both headlight motors run, and both have mangled leads (plus lots of PO undercoat spare crud).
bkrantz
Finally, the fresh air blower. It blows.
bkrantz
Methinks this is not original to the car. I wonder if $50 was a good deal?
bkrantz
And finally, I sorted through the aluminum trim. What came off the car has custom PO black paint.
bkrantz
The PO did such a good job, and lightly sanded all the original trim before painting.

The replacement targa trim I have is a bit lumpy in places. wacko.gif
bkrantz
At least the overall shape is (mostly) good.
bkrantz
The sills are straight, but have some PO overspray.
bkrantz
Both carpet strips need some tweaking.
bkrantz
Same story on the blacked-out window gasket channels: sanding under the paint.
