What are normal compression numbers?

1.7L engine was re-built by PO but was never started. Tonight I adjusted the valves (he'd left them very loose) and checked cylinder compression... about 90 lbs. except #1 only 70 lbs. Hoping I have a valve that's just sticking a bit and it will loosen up after running a while?

I am guessing that you need to run it for a while to seat the rings before the compression comes up. How long ago was the engine rebuilt? Hopefully the PO didn't leave the cylinders dry and let them rust.

THe engine has signs of oil around the intake, exhaust valves, etc. so I'm pretty sure he left it lubed up. I'm thinking the same thing,... run it for a while to seat everything. Not sure when it was rebuilt but was at least three years ago.
