Right vinyl grain? poke.gif

(Asks someone with wrong-grain seats...that don't match the doors, dash, back pad, etc...)

It is really pathetic about all of the different grains of the vinyl people use to recover I can spot a mile away (so to speak) Even Porsche has made the mistake with 914 interior parts reissue

Does everyone know that the smooth fabric used on the seat bolsters is different on:

70 models
71 models
72-74 models
75-76 models

No question, there were a lot of materials used in the 914 over the years.

However, one vinyl grain is very common across a lot of the cars I've seen, and it's seen in the photo below—found in the Originality forum. IIRC (can check tonight), it's the grain seen on my 914's original:

-Upper dashboard (under windshield)
-Dash pad
-Lower dash/knee pad
-Upper door cards
-Sun visors (these & part of back pad are the only things on this list I've replaced)
-Interior A-pillar trims
-Interior Targa bar trims
-Upper Targa bar pad (front)
-"Third seat" pad
-Back pad
-Various bits of vinyl under the seats, etc.

It was also on my original seats, which are now long gone. Was this "grain"/pattern only used on the parts above in some model years, or was it used on some of the parts across all model years?

I would think the world’s best would be similar to a 911, which can detach from the middle and pivot to the sides. VW really cheated out on the stock visors functionality. Would sure like to see someone come up with a set like my suggestion.

Now that is something that either George or Mikey could produce and sell several sets to the members here. I would definitely be in for a set. Then we would need a show of hands for a group buy.

While on the topic - are the original visors flat or do they have a curve/contour to them?

I am devising a way to repair originals and would like to get it right.
