Hi Guys,

I hope everyone is enjoying the the holiday season.

As I mentioned before, given the increasing interest in 914s, I'm starting a new series for newbies and would love topic ideas. So far I have:

What's my VIN? (where VINs and body numbers can be found)
What is the hell hole?
Rust never sleeps (common hiding spots)
How to buy a 914 (sources and importantce of PPIs)
Parts is Parts (vendors and resources)

Have any other ideas for short intro topics that come up frequently?

Seems people are digging the clutch install video. Over 400 views to date! Feels great to give back to this amazing community.

If you find my videos helpful and haven't yet subscribed, I'd be super appreciative if you would. It's totally free and the worst that will happen is you'll be notified when I post a new one. I'm told that youtube's algorithm is much kinder to creators with more than 1K subscribers. I have over 800 at this point and need a little push to get over the top. Just takes two clicks:

Then just click the "subscribe" button under the right rear wheel.

Thanks so much. The more interest I have in the channel, the more I can commit to producing new content!

All the best for a happy and healthy new year.

Ian

Thanks, Mark. Means a lot coming from you. Your posts are always filled with great info...and entertainment .).

My day job is director/producer, and it's great being able to mix work and wrenching. I generally shoot these solo, so it takes a lot longer, but it's worth it knowing that I could be saving some knuckles from being busted.

So far about 15 new people have subscribed...which is great. But if every person who read this thread... wink.gif

Just think of me as a shelter pet in a Sarah McLachlin commercial...for just one click, you can make a difference. (insert sympathetic face here)

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't currently have access to a carb car, but valve adjustment and setting timing are great ideas...

Ian, subscribed last week... keep up the good work.

It sounds stupid to you wrenchers but a video of an oilchange on a Porsche 914 cannot be found on youtube.

Being a newbie myself I did some basic maintenance on motorbikes but it would be great to see :

* how to drain the oil
* how to replace all filters
* how to refresh the gearbox oil
* which engine oil, gearbox oil, quantities etc to use
* adjusting the valves - which tools, setting dead top center etc
* what to look for or do on the original injection

I have a good idea on how to do it but to see it would be a nice factchecker biggrin.gif

note : just bought a 74 2.0 fm Florida which will be shipped soon. First thing I will do is the above so hurry up biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif (joke ofcourse)

Greetings fm the other side of the world

I think I did it. Great stuff. Thanks

Subscribed! I just used your fresh air box installation video a few days ago. Using those tricks, it was a pretty simple 30 minute install by myself! I actually wound up doing it twice and it went in just as easy the second time too. Without that vid, I'd probably still be out in the garage cussing. beerchug.gif

Thanks everyone!

@dax1969 great suggestions. The most common tasks can probably benefit the most. Plus...it's fun to make an oil recommendation and watch what happens wink.gif.

Another video idea:
- how to check / set rear brake venting clearance

It's a maintenance item that is unique to our cars that not many professionals are not familiar with, let alone home mechanics. I can see people benefiting from a video instruction.
