Can anyone tell me what the clearance between the inside lip of a 6" or 7" Fuchs and the body is please? My car hasn't arrived yet to measure it myself.

It can vary from car to car or be different on the left hand side compared to the right. This is due to variability in the construction of these vehicles. On my '72, 6"x16 Fuchs fit nicely on the rear but my 7" Fuchs have no chance, I'd have to pull out the guards or roll the lips in a little, something I didn't want to do. No problem with guard clearance on the front for 7" Fuchs. I think it best you wait for the vehicle then measure. If the car is 4 stud you can still check by holding on the Fuchs with one bolt - just don't drive it

Thanks for the feedback guys, it was the inside lip I was wondering about. I am assembling some BBS RS wheels for my 77 911 which I can't get the exact backspace as a Fuchs, it ends up slightly wider on the inside. My thought was to also bolt them onto the 914 that has 6" Fuchs.
I'm in Brisbane where there are a few more like minded people than your area. What size tyre is fitted to your 7?
I have seen images of other cars with 7" Fuchs on the rear that don't look to have had the rear guard pushed out/or pushed out a lot anyway, I assume they are only a 205 width tyre max?

Yeah I was going to ask what size tire and what's the backspacing on those wheels?
I have 15X6 fuchs rims with 205/60-15 tires and they don't stick out much at all. If I could get the same backspace on 7" rims I imagine I could get 225/50-15 in just pulling the rear of the fenders.

My teen is a '74, fenders have not been rolled and doesn't seem to have as much issue as I've seen in some other 914's.

The 6" and 7" Fuchs have the same backspace, the extra inch is on the outer lip which is the more obvious issue.
Using the 3 piece wheels you can use a wider inner barrel and thinner outer lip..... i.e. 6" barrel and 1" lip is almost the same as a 7" Fuchs.
If there is room on the inside you could go to a 6.5" barrel and affectively have a wheel that is 8" bead to bead, a gentle massage on the fender as you say would also be required.

I built these 7.5 x 16s from 16x6s added 1.5 to the backside,, 205/55 tires.. needed about 1/2 to 5/8 thick spacer, cant rember...All stock..

Keeping the front face as near to the 6" is the key as that wont effect fender rubbing, that is why I was wondering how much room was out back.
Interesting that you managed 1.5 at the back, I thought an 1" was probably nearing the max room.

Have Fuchs 6s and 7s with 205/60/15s and had to roll the lips and pull both rear fenders. Was getting paint burn on one side side and rubbing on the other so they both needed to be done. Now all is good but they clear by about a pinky width.

Proxes 205/55 on 7" Fuchs 911 361 020 44 in the photo.

Each car is different and fender clearance can differ up to 6mm or so and be off center (not even) left to right.

It seems the factory has all the critical points pretty tight but the rear fender lip to inner can differ and outer fender lip to suspension hub face may be different left to right.

Top that off with a 50 year old car that may or may not have been repaired at some point, take all the advice with a grain of salt.

16 x 7'' front and rear ,lightly pulled guards in the rear but stock unrolled lips, no trailing arm shims so good amount or clearance,front 5mm shim spacers.
Tyre choice is important for the rear,I'am running 205/50/16's all round.
Have a new set of 8'' to go on the rear after a bit of metalwork .

I found my old measurements. It is an example of the difference left compared to right on my car. The outer edge of the rim is 12.5 mm inwards from those particular tyre outlines.

Rick the front tyres mounted on the 6" rims certainly look smaller than the rear at that angle.

I have seen a photo of a car today with 225/50 16 on a 7" Fuchs with standard fenders, they don't look distorted but have obviously had a serious tweak.
