It'll work but they are crude. The angle of the tube changes the reading and at idle it's hard to tell where the average level of the bouncing ball is. Then try comparing that level between 6 stacks...
The dial type that PP sells for around $40 are much better. You get a number reading that is pretty repeatable.

yes, I have one of them along with the more expensive tool.
the tool you pictured restricts the flow more than the $ tool. So you just put it on the air horn, get a quick reading, and pull it off.
if you leave it in place it affects the way the engine runs, unlike the more expensive unit.
but yes you can sync carbs with it.

Thanks....I used that tool back in the 70s...was wondering if anything had improved over the years.

Have you got a part number or a "official" description? PP has guys that are less than....ummm, knowledgeable lately....

quite the opposite...
people who've bought what's currently available report that the new ones are very cheap and crude in construction. the Synchrometer is lots better. i've still got a '70's-era UniSyn in my box but i never use it any more...

The original Syncrometer (snail) is the unit to have, IMO.
That black one is a knock off......from commie China or somesuch. You pays your money & takes your chances.

My internet translator says "I need one also" (or "one too")....but it's been wrong before.

Here's the one I picked up from the link I posted above, $25.
The box it comes in says it made in Taiwan. It appears absolutely identical to at least one I saw listed online somewhere as made in Germany, for $40 or $60. If its a copy, it at least looks like an exact copy. I can't contribute anything about relative performance, though.
I can pull about 20-25 kg/hr by lung, though. Makes you kinda dizzy.
