Hi all,
This is a question for those that have a Jwest Rennshift in their 914.
Did you install the base over or under the carpet? Or did you cut the carpet around the perimeter of the base.
I just got one and will be installing it in a couple of weeks. I hadn't realize how thick the base is. Seems too thick to have it under the carpet. But if I put it over the carpet, does the carpet thickness affect the precision/operation of the shifter?
Thanks,
Bill.

IMHO under the carpet. cut a hole to fit around the shifter.
I have considered sewing a vinyl sleeve to go around the shifter body , but haven't done it yet.

Under – you need to make sure it’s mounted flush to the other metal surface.

Under for sure.
And make a boot for it out of something or you will have dirt and trash getting inside the body of your shifter.

You can also purchase a low cost rubber 911/915 shifter boot which covers the whole shifter. I think it looks better and keeps crap out of the shifter.
