I am sure this has been covered, but I don’t seem to be able to find a general consensus on what tires will fit under the stock fenders. I’d really like to know what size tire you’re running and are happy with.

I believe the 914 originally came with 165HR15 - which were 165/80HR15. But I have seen that a lot of people use 195-65-15. Is that right?

Back in the 80s I think I ran 195-50-15. Or even 205-50-15.

I have stock fenders, and am using Pedrinis. I prefer not to use a spacer.

Suggestions? What are you running? Pictures of your 914 clad in your favorite size?

After hours of research I found 195’s to be the best fit.

I run 195/50/15 with 3/8” spacers in rear without a problem.

I have had 205/60's and 195/165s. the 195/65s fit better and look better on the rims. the 205's were a little too wide for the rim didn't look right.

I’m planning to buy 195x60 for a replica 2.0 fuch wheels.
I did 205x60 on a 911 6” wide fuch wheels but for 5.5 I think 205 is a little wider.
195x55 kinda low and 195x50 also and gives a stock speedo wrong numbers. And 195x65 is kinda give higher side walls but almost accurate on speedo. Well that is for my own understanding/opinion. Again it all depends how each owner/driver wants it.

I went with 195x55xR15 Yokohama tires on my deep 6 wheels and I like the look. It also provides some sidewall to give the car a little protection from the horrible roads here in CA.

I have 195x65x15 on 2.0 Fuchs on my 1.7 car and it looks and fits great.
I have 205x60x15 on 5 lug Fuchs on my 3.2 car. One side was a little tight but I pulled it out by hand and it's fine. The 205 look a little too wide if you want a more period correct look.

Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season, 195/65-15, on Pedrinis. Nice tire, though the car feels slightly less agile/playful compared to the old Vredestein (165/80-15) tires that were on the car. That said, it is definitely more planted...

Plenty of clearance all-around, even with no spacers.

205 /55 VR 15 on 15 x 6's works with any stock wheel. 4 or 6

I'm finding that the stock 165/15s actually had an 82 aspect ratio...not 80. This makes 195/65/15s 2.7% smaller in diameter than the stock tires. 195/70/15s calculate to be exactly the same diameter as the stock tires.. Tougher to find a performance tire in this size, however.

I am running 195/65/15s. My speedometer is optimistic due to the smaller than stock diameter tires, but I liked the look and the tire selection the best and have mentally adjusted for the speedo error by calibrating with my GPS.



You should also consider your ride height. My car is a little lower than stock. Ride height will make a difference in the "look" with each tire size considered.

I run 205/55/15s on the 4 lug Fuchs. I had trouble finding performance rubber in 60 series. I didn't want all season tires because the rubber is too hard. The speedometer reads high but I have better acceleration with the 55s. I previously had 205/50/15s and the ride was too rough.Click to view attachment
