At the LM24 in June of 1970, #40 was beat by this Ferrari> which placed 5th overall + 4th in its class; can't beat them all !

That big engine Ferrari only beat your 914-6 GT by 20 laps.

And your GT beat both the Solar productions 908/2 camera car and the top finishing 911 S by 3 laps.

And they still had the nerve to call the 914 a NARP. finger.gif

Speaking of NARPs...in 2010 when the Porsche/ Cayenne powered Riley crossed the Daytona 24h finish line P1 overall, none of the Normal factory brass quite knew what to do. Yes the crowd waved their trinket Porsche flags, but after the Brumos (flat 6 powered) Riley didn't take home the gold there was a P/R disconnect. Who'd a thunk a 5L Cayenne SUV powered prototype would even Podium Finish...it's a darn NARP. Ben Lozano (LBP co.) saved the day and took to the microphone for his 'Informative speech + Rolex Trophy acceptance first.gif

Prototype for the venting of the GT fill-cap, using a bronze-mesh style mini breather. I mounted at the highest point, and sits in the top of the tank (slosh) balance tube. I might take this another step and set up an activated charcoal canister to further capture any vented fumes. Unfortunately when we closed the deal on #40, there was nothing at the top of the 100 Liter gt tank...seller just says "Because racecar"

In 2015, we met at RR5 in Laguna Seca and he gave me a few pics from that day in Pomona !

Hey Marty, can I request that you post some dimensions (length/width) and location (distance from either the floor or rear window) of the firewall access panel? Going to try to replicate it in my 6 conversion.

@troth the measurements will be as looking Aft' from within the 914 cabin.
This picture shows the basic layout, dark gray felt material, and the 4) sheet metal screws holding the metal plate (8" Height / 7½" Width) in place. Your firewall cutout should be smaller, in order to leave a metal edge where the fasteners will secure to.
Your Center Line is established as Center of targa window. The 10½" distance = bottom of where the window sits on the metal 'Step of interior bodywork>> to the Top of metal plate location...next diagram.

Heat cycle to cure the ceramic coating on the heaters?

Nope...ceramic coating on headers is 90% 'Cured in the bake ovens at the contractor's facility: last 10% was cured on the 30 minute run-stand at Aase engine builders.
We just run up to temp and get the heat in engine oil up to temp, and wait for the Thermostat to cycle open to the front oil cooler.

We don't drive her on public streets, but that would heat the oil quicker.

Hey dude, wow...Congratulations! A quick question on the body work. Are those rear flares the original ones? And is it my imagination, or are those wider than the m471 supplied flares? Thanks and dang, congrats again.

Paul...your eyes are not mistaken as these fenders were prototypes, hammered over bucks by hand. Slightly wider than the oe m471 stampings , and the lower contours a bit different as well.
I checked these against my black six , converted to GT tribute in late '80s, with Factory sourced panels; Fender flare profiles + width have slight differences. Thank you for your interest

Thanks Marty, they look so cool and being original they give me permission to look closer at the pics and make my own copy. Fronts look close to the m471 flare.

As I have worked on my rear flares, I’ve been guessing at the width. I can’t change what I have but I was wondering if I have come close. If you remember the measurement from inside the wheel well to the lip of the flare? Thanks Marty

@Shivers next time we have the tires off, we can check for you. My '74 gt tribute did have the rear quarters 'Pushed outward after welded in place, in order to clear the wheel/ tire combo.
The LeMans car has factory prototype flares, that are much wider (all 4 corners) than standard gt flares (like m471) or the steel re-pops available these days.

I’m adding 2” front and rear to some m471’s with a little reshaping. Not quite like yours but they were my inspiration.

When I had the '74 flared in '89, the body shop asked if I wanted 2" more sheet metal added; but we just TiG welded the standard gt style. Worked out good smile.gif
