With the early 914 design effort dating back to 1964 - parallel with the final design & introduction of the 901/911 & 902/912 - that not only makes the 914 project clearly part of the overall corporate plan to modernize their offerings across the board (even with the 356C production extending into 1965 MY), but it also shoots down those various theories that other non-Porsche designers actually designed ot influenced the 914 (Gugelot, etc.).
I wasn't very impressed with some of the early schemes, until the later 914-esque ones in late 1967+/- by Klie (#5 of 7 in the series of design models photos).
