Which way did valve cover holes go up or down ? and what did they hold ?
Also valve cover bales.. curve up or down ?

The middle of the bale curves up (like an "n") when it is snapped into place (curve is down like a "u") when it is resting unsnapped at the bottom of the cylinder head.
I don't know whether the orientation of the hole matters, or what its function is.
I always remount them in the same way they were installed, which you can tell by the direction of the scrapes made by the bale. Holes are up.
