While at home I figured I would go ahead and do an oil change and I wanted to take the time to do an engine clean to get the road grime and any misc. oil leakage off the bottom without a big pressure wash spray out. (It is sitting in the garage.)

I have read several options to use brake cleaner or simple green or kerosene and a brush. Is this the preferred way to go? Does anyone else have any other suggestions or a good thread here on the site. TIA

I just use a rag and wipe it down and a brush to remove dirty grime.
You are missing the bottom tin on the one side....

If you want it shiny clean then set it up on jack stands outside and spray it with a degreaser and then pressure wash it. (I just did this)
