Hey guys,
Continuing to hunt down issues when first starting the car, I decided to crack open the AAR Valve and cleaned and lubed per other threads on here and Pelican.

My question is where to set the heater element to spec.

I set it to where it was when taken apart and heated the element with a heat gun (to simulate the voltage from the electrical connection) to check for movement and while it did move...it didn't move much and air wasn't flowing.

So my question is a follows....(assume 68 degrees ambient temp)

-----How do I set the element and valve rotation to achieve this? Should I try and heat water to 122 degrees (full closed spec) and set the valve to that??

Thanks in advance!Click to view attachment

>1. When is the air flowing fully though the valve? (engine cold or engine warm)

When engine is cold, port is open.

>2. How do I set the element and valve rotation to achieve this?

Not sure. Brad Anders has a very detailed explanation below of functioning and repair, including some ideas about modding to have it open slower or faster, which may help explain how to setup the ambient position of the element.

>3. When the coil is heated it expands and when it cools it retracts, correct?

Yes.

Good luck!

I tested one that I sold a while back, trying to remember but believe it stayed open for like 30-40 seconds (maybe less) in cold engine condition, powered coil with a bi-metal element again from memory, they are generally reliable but get dirty inside or the power feed wire breaks off sad.gif .
