I own a transmission shop in Lancaster, PA and several 911's. I am looking to buy a well sorted 914 conversion powered by Porsche 6, Subaru, or might consider a rotary or GM 6 cylinder. My preference would be a car that is well sorted and running well. I might consider a car with engine out (porsche only), as I have a 3.0 which I built with 964 cam grind, and cam and rockers hardwelded. This was a cost no object build where I invested 10 K in parts and machine work to have a motor thar was better than new. I just never installed it in anything. Let me know your thoughts. I am looking for a 20K or less car, but may have some wiggle room. No $40000 garage queens, please.

Sounds to me like you should build a car with your engine. You'll have a tough time finding a good conversion car with a Porsche engine for less than $20k, but possibly a Suby or Chevy powered car. I don't know how up on current fair market prices you are, but you might want to do some research. Good luck in your search!

Hi my name is Steve Limbert and own AIRCOOLED Racing over in the Dillsburg area and we have raced and restored lots of 914's for customers for over 40 years Regently did a 356 outlaw, currently doing a 80's 911 that had not been touched with over 235K miles, needless to say it needs everything.. Not into going to the other side putting in an engine that contains water. However we also have several good solid cars including an SCCA windshield production roller, Currently doing 2 customer cars back to original, Also rebuild both 4 and 6 cylinder engines including tranaxles, 741, 901, 914 and the 915,s! Perhaps we can help, don't really look at this site that ofter best to call (717) 432 4116 regards travel safe

20k for a sorted conversion car is going to be tight. No Porsche 6's will fit in that price, Possibly a non turbo subaru or SBC. They pop up every now and then but get snatched up pretty quick. Good luck!

I have several other cars. My brother was driving my 82 SC 6 years ago and there was a fire in the engine bay that damaged harness and other things. I pulled engine and trans, and did a cost no object build on the 3.0. Later, someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse on the Continetal orange tub. I have a 914-4 that is straight in storage and many parts to build a car myself, but at 64 years old and still working, I don't want to start something I won't finish till I'm 70. My brother owns a 930, an 89 SC, and a 78 targa, all immaculate and available for me to use anytime. I just don't want the responsibility of driving someone else's love object. I am flexable in what I invest, but I am looking foe a solid driver, not something to worship. I own a shop, and could do some maintainance, but don't want another car that is can't be driven. I have had my best times driving my old 911 all over the country, to work, and leaving it outside like any other car. I want to return to this spirit and mindset, and with that, am casting a wide net in considering another car. Several nice drivers have appeared on this forum in the sub 25K range, some selling quickly, others not. I will patient and see what pops up.

Scott

Solid plan Scott. Be patient and one will pop up no doubt. In the mean time, enjoy reading all the threads for the builds. beerchug.gif Michael welcome.png
