Or support the gear stack vertically, between the jaws of a vise on a sturdy workbench.
Take a block of wood to protect the end of the shaft and beat away with a BFH
You should be able to drive the shaft out of the gear stack.
I then go over the input/output shaft with some crocus/emory cloth and reduce the amount of interfernce between the gears sliders spacers etc.. so you dont need a press or BF next time around...
The guy whose name escapes me now.. he rebuilds the trannys for PMNA showed me this trick

Even that mod to make the gears slide more easily on and off needs a lil more splainin
you really should chuck the inpu/output shaft in a lathe to do this

i cant even get the shafts out the input shaft yet....
BTW - what are EARLY 4 bolt 2 Pin output shafts worth?

Did you even read my article?
BFH. Use a brass one and be gentle, but forceful.

Go buy a $20 BRASS BFH
and beat the shafts out of the bearings. Once out the gears slide off.
Remember, brass is soft, steel is way harder!

I used one of those gear puller/bracket things like a press. Worked like a charm by pushing the shaft out of the intermediate plate.
I can take a picture if you want

used a BFH and a brass rod.
out like a charm. now have HB S Z gear sets bundled together....
sliders/dogteeth/synchros look pretty good.
now to have someone assemble my other 914 box... A F ZD Flipped S ZD
BTW - what are the output shafts worth out of this box -4 bolt 2 pin, a little bigger than stock 914 stuffs

No idea what those output flanges are worth. If they are like the 912 trannies I took apart, they're different and wouldn't fit a 914 trans.

Use the HB flipped for 5th. It gives more overdrive.....
What you end up with is a close ratio 4 speed with a long legged 5th for highway use.

too tall i believe. more suited for a v8. not enough torque from a four banger....
and the gap from an S 4th to a flipped HB 5th would be huge! imagine that downshift... waaaoooo weeeeeeeeeeee

Actually, that's the exact gear set I have for my /6 conversion....
Recommended by 2 long time Porsche people, each not knowing of the other's recommendation.
As soon as my car is on the road I will let you know how it works!
