Fuel pressure was good at 29 psi

Checked for spark putting a plug in a wire and cranking it fires one spark only the nothing nada zip

Checked coil ohms secondary 9750 ohms; primary 4.5 ohms seems good

Battery 12V But only 11.79 V at positive terminal of coil when ignition is on

And only 10.5V when starting

Is this a bad coil? Bad relay board? Bad wiring harness?

Something else ?

What should I check next

First - welcome to the forum.

Check the easy stuff first. Make sure cap and rotor in properly in place. Make sure the distributor is fully seated. Make sure you have 12v to coil in run and when cranking.

Check that stuff and let us know what you find.

Good luck.

Check the points.

Check the points.

Thank you and everyone who responded
It was indeed the points and so I replaced the points and condenser!
I was very surprised the pints were new old stock Bosch and had only been in the car a few minutes so I did not suspect that but it’s running great now

I am concerned about the voltage to coil though it was only 11.7 ignition on and drops to 10.7 when cranking!! Could this be due to old wiring harness?? I think maybe when wires get old and have heated up they have resistance right?

Great, glad it was something simple.

The voltage drop is due to a number of things, but yes, old wiring and old connections. You can start with some of the cheap stuff:

Ground strap from tranny to body
Ground strap from battery to body
ALL ground connections cleaned

If you are sensing a theme of renewing your grounding part of the system, correct. smile.gif

Aa cheap way to clean grounds. A $10. H. F. Deimmel tool. Definitely helps.
