I would say that is a very fair price. Running and driving for under $10k? Perfect.

951s are only going up in value.
914Sixer
Fair price. Turbo rebuild $1K alone. All turbo car parts are double that of the stock ones for engine and exhaust.

Depends on service history and if your are fixing it yourself.

Clutch job - 20 hours.. figure $3000+ for a shop
Belt service - $600 in parts.. or $2500 for a shop
AC working?
Stock boost (seems once they start modding, well, lifespans shrink)
Torn seats
Sunroof working (know fail point there too)
Dash likely cracked to pieces under the carpet cover.

Maybe an LS conversion candidate given the better brakes and trans vs a 8V NA version

For comparison, the pinnacle (1988 Turbo S, Silver rose color) got bid up to $43K on BAT recently

OK price if the PMs are up to date. Paying someone for belts and water pump, clutch, engine mounts, etc is pricey.

LS conversions are lame like vanilla ice cream.

07K 5cyl swap is the ticket.

Just a matter of time before that 07K finds its way into a 914 as well.

If I had a spare chassis, I'd be on it right now.. As is Im tempted to grab a 2.5 block and see if it'll fit in my current setup without mods. I have about 6" in front of the engine

You can do a swap if the smog equipment that came in the engine from the factory are retained, also the engine needs to be a later model than the vehicle.

It requires a certification from the California BAR, but its 100% doable.

I'm putting one in my Opel GT.

It's a reasonable price for someone with lots of spare time.

Spare time ?
As in time to drive or time turning wrenches ?

A 944 clutch is the most unhappy mechanical job I have ever done. 25 years later, I still have the psychological scars.

Yep its shit for sure ...really why make it so hard, there is minimal space to get the trans out and get it back in.
Mine was a 2.7 engine change but the stock low mileage plate was fine, replacements are mental money from the original rubber center one.
I wouldn't touch an early 951 TBO,very expense as mentioned.
Good daily driver but a bastard car to work on.

Not to be a downer but BEWARE!!! These cars are so expensive to fix!! Just sold my 1989 944 Turbo which was mechanically perfect....so many low ball offers....asking $11,500 and offered $6,000 by "Porsche Pros". Then I hit a bad bump and cracked the oil pan...$3,000 to fix but I got Cal Trans to pay for it....that showed me you need $5,000 in hand just to own one of these fine cars. 1986 is a trouble year I believe.....especially on the turbo. I would be very careful....fastest best car I have ever owned but in the end glad I sold it for $9,000 and now just keeping my 914 on the road....which isn't cheap but way more affordable than a 944 Turbo. Jus' sayin'....

Maybe on an NA car... Turbo cars are a bit more complicated.

I have had my 86 Turbo for almost 20 years ago. Had to have a shop do the clutch shortly after I bought it. It was the single most expensive thing i have ever paid for on any car.

It was my daily driver in California but I stopped driving it when i moved to Utah. Over the last 15 years i dont think i have put even 2000 miles on it but yet i still cant bring myself to sell it. Every time i try to I drive it and am reminded that i just cant let it go. The turbos are amazing cars.

Im into driving .... Not the car being down for maintence all the time so ar15.gif 951
Mikey914
951 is a great car, did all of the maintenance myself......except he torque tube rebuild and the clutch. Other than that just a big Audi / VW. head gaskets I changed a few times as I kept over boosting. Tride the copper "super" gasket, but in the end teh stock held up the best. Factory 7lbs boost, I could reliably run 20 on a daily basis. It's about 26-28 you have problems on a bone stock engine.
If you can turn a wrench it's a pretty good car. Had to run 13" tires in the back as you could break it loose easy if you didn't.
