My driver side window crank broke off for the second time in about a month (or so)...Brad suggests that I buy a good pair of "Chrome" one's as they'll last longer...

Does anyone have some for sale?

The ones in my car are black metal. I was told they were from a VW Rabbit. Anyone know for sure? Anyway, they look nice in a 914.

black metal or black "plastic" covered pot metal??

No plastic, they are all metal except for the round plastic cover that goes over the screw. They are pretty nice and sturdy.

Got any better pics?

i'd say it's about time you fix your window mechanism. clean it and get it all lubed up nicely ...

most common reason why people brake the handle is that the mechanism is sticking and instead of cleaning and lubing it, they just pull really hard on the handle ...

Actually, my window rolls up and down nice and smooth with very little effort, the plastic piece was just crappy.

I'm hoping that someone here has some of the chrome one's so I don't have to get one from Rich tomorrow. Brad says that the aftermarket VW one's are crap...

Ok, if no one has any chrome one's, I could settle for billet...it should be very difficult to break those.

Same crank as used on late Bugs (screw attached, not roll pin) and Rabbits. There are some aftermarket knock offs sold to the VW crowd, and some of these knock offs have been of poor quality. Maybe that is what you got that failed.

Try to find some OEM VW handles if you have trouble with finding the 914 ones (later 914's actually used the same handle as the Rabbit was using at the time).

Just be aware of repro's from china and such.

wA wrecking yard ought to be a goos source of the later 914/VW handle.

Else try High Performance House. Rich likely has some good ones for sale, either early chrome, or later plastic ones. If OEM they should have a good quality metal "core", not pot metal like the cheapo repros.

My 44 year old handles still work in my Bug, 325,000 miles and counting.

Yea, I think the OEM is what I'm looking for with a good metal core. I'll be at Rich's tomorrow getting my tires put on my new rims, so I'll see what he has while I'm there.

If I were to get the one's from the VW's that were the same, where would I find those (of good quality, of course)?

i'll let'em go for like $15 or less + shipping...i have no use for them...they could use some cleaning up and i cant seem to find the allen bolt that attaches them to the door...but yea..msg back

no they dont have a black cover...but i did find the stock ones at the junk for like $1 a pop.......check out your local vw dismantler...

the point with those is that people want to see the shiny polished metal instead of dull plastic covers ....

Mine's crapping out as well. It was replaced last fall. The plastic knob is tearing from the crank. I guess I don't know my own strength.

Yea, that's what happened to the one I had. It held on by it's last string until Saturday evening and finally popped off.

do you save on shipping if you buy more? Too bad you placed the order already, I'd be interested in investing in a pair.
