After installing the 123Distributor and turning the body CCW until the green light turns on this is where the rotor and #1 plug wire line up at TDC. Since the rotor turns clockwise it's already passed the #1 plug wire. Does it have to be pointing exactly at #1 plug or just in the general area to start the engine?

just in general it should start, but it’s touchy and a very small amount of movement makes a huge difference, so adjust slowly, once warmed up set timing same as usual. should be good to go

Timing is set BTDC (I think 5deg)

So you should back it up a couple degrees.

laugh.gif Lol yes retarded. However, when I back it up to line up with the #1 plug the little green light goes out.

You have to put the 5 deg timing mark in the V ( or 7.5 )

it is before the 0 TDC mark

Depending on your engine and fan there should be timing marks at 27 BTDC, 5 BTDC and 0 TDC.

I think on a 1.8 the marks are at 7.5 BTDC. and 27 BTDC

Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

You could just advance it a little to get it started and then set the timing with a timing light @ 27 btdc 3000 rpm

Hey Olympic. It's a 2.0 so only 0 and 27 BTDC. That's actually what I did to start it but was curious why the rotor and #1 plug don't line up. Maybe it's a moot point since you can customize the curve with the bluetooth app.

You only have to line the LED up good enough for the engine to start. After that, you should rotate the distributor and set the timing with a light at whatever the appropriate advance/rpm is for your engine.

Is that D-Jet? If so, there are some nuances with the 123. Namely, choosing the right profile from the limited choices available via DIP switch, and getting the orientation/polarity correct for proper fuel injection pulse phasing:

It's a Bluetooth. I picked a curve that Mcmark suggested to someone on a thread I read here.

It does and just about everything else.

When I did my 1.8 i just started where the green light was on then set the timing using the flywheel marks. These are great distributers. The blue tooh adjust ability is fantastic.
