Hello; I have a chance to buy a 2016 Porsche Cayman. Not a great deal but not a bad price either. I hope to get a pre purchase inspection done prior tp purchase but do not know where in SE Kentucky. The car in is London KY. Do any of you happen to know of a place in that area?
I can find two places in Knoxville TN. There is a dealer in Kingsport TN. Not sure now but there use to be a dealer in Lexington Ky. All are some distance from London KY with Lexington likely being the closer, but still not close.

I live in Knoxville and there are several Porsche specialists around, but London is over 1.5 hrs away, so I'm not sure how you could get a pre-purchase inspection. Lexington is slightly closer, you may have a little better luck there.
London is not a large town, but my guess is you could call 5 or so of the better rated (on google) local mechanic shops and still get a good pre-purchase inspection.
I'm guessing there is similar bulletin board similar to this one that focuses on Cayman/Boxsters, you might have better luck there.

Hello; I located a shop in Lexington KY, Foreign Affairs Autoworks. They will do a PPI for $125. I sent the seller the information today but have not heard back yet.

Basically she has gotten several bites on the car so far. I happen to live around 60 miles away so drove up Sunday. The car seems nice and she is not willing to lower her asking price. I agreed to pay her asking price if I can get a PPI to help confirm that the car is as sound as it seems to be.

The seller is supposed to have another potential buyer over to see the car Tuesday. I agreed that her smart play is to see if he/she will pay her price without such an inspection. I owned a 914 back in the 1970's and early 80's and could check out one of those, but do not know what to look for in the Cayman.

The car is out of factory warranty and she is the third owner. I am probably being too cautious and such will likely cause me to lose a good car.

I like your suggestion and will call around if the car is not gone tomorrow. Thanks.

Get the vin# and have the local Porsche dealer run it for service record also get a carfax and if both are clean you should be okay to proceed. It's a 4 year old car that you already inspected in person!

Hello; The owner said she has a carfax so if it did not sell today I may ask her for it. Probably should have when in person.
Using the Vin at a dealer is a good idea and should give some additional information.

Before I went to see the car in person some research was done and I discovered there are three things to be checked.
One is that the car's computer keeps a record of over the redline incidents and the information can be pulled.
Another is some of the engines can have cylinder bore scuffing from the piston skirts. Apparently this cannot be heard well unless the car is on a lift.
Last is an expensive to cure overheating issue possible that can be identified in a simple procedure.

I confess to being overly cautious about this. There is not an actual guarantee even with a PPI, but something made me decide to condition paying the asking price on an inspection. I did offer to buy at a slightly lower price without an inspection.

The seller has not given me an answer on any of it yet. I believe she had a potential buyer supposed to see the car today.

Hello; I actually did try a couple of such sites. At first as a visitor and then tried to join. Turns out PCA requires payment which presents a problem. Not the cost but that I do not do online money transfer. Just do not trust the systems enough to put account info online.

I was about to join rennlist but some demands for personal information showed up that I am not comfortable with.

I have been a member here for a few years. I do not post much but check the for sale adds often. My initial goal was to get another 914 when I bought my home ten years ago. I had a 1972 914 for 12 years back in the 70' and 80's. This has been somewhat less successful than I hoped. Anyway since I was already a member I tried here in case some one might have the information.

Hello; The car is still available and the seller is willing to allow an inspection. I did ask for and get the VIN. I will see about getting some info from that tomorrow. Will have to pay the full asking price is the only negative so far.
Thanks for the help.
