Got more DIY questions...

Bruce and I have the tranny out of the 1.7 but we need to order more parts before we reinstall everything. Right now the tail is up very high on jackstands and we have a few blocks of wood bracing the back of the motor. It seems as though the motor won't stay in place without the blocks; is that correct?

We want to bolt the rear tires back on and roll the bar a few feet back so we can work on the front brakes. Can we do this sans transmission and with only motormounts holding the engine in?

The rear of the motor has to have support, you'll end up breaking or bending something if you let the motor pivot on the motormounts only.

Get a heavy rope or chain and support the rear of the motor from the TOP of the engine compartment with lets say a 4x4 layed across the top of the engine compartment.

I would put a floor jack under the rear of the engine and CAREFULLY move the car a few feet with one person on the handle of the jack and the other pushing the car SLOWLY.

attach chain/rope to what?

Intake runners.

You can use the loop for the trunk lid torsion bars if its a earlier car (to support the rope thru the intake runners) The wood across the engine bay is best way.. but how many people have a 4x4 that is 4 feet wide in their backyard..LOL

The problem with the floorjack method: most people dont have 2 floorjacks. 1 to lower the car from the stands and 1 to maintain the engine heigth while lowering the car.
