My floor pans are pretty solid but the center tunnel and cross member is rusted away along the bottom edges. What is the best way to repair these areas?

Hey RD !

Welcome to the board... My lawyer is in Temple (Porsche guy/914 guy)

It will be scary.. but you can cut the center tunnel out of the car and have the floorpans in place when you are done.

The biggest headache I can think of is the clutch tube (welds to the drivers side of the tunnel, and the tube for the throttle linkage (also welds to the drivers side of the tunnel)

We have some very good pics floating around here of the tunnel. Someone else will chime in with pics for us and show you.

just crawled under my car and took a picture of what Brad was talking about. As i was taking the pans away i noticed mine was broken off:( and that the guy before me used metal wire ties to hold it in place.

Can you zoom out and get a pic of the whole thing ??

Nice camera BTW. LOL

see this is my problem right here. i plan to cut it off right before the whole ( so it wont be a weak point) and just fabricate it.

wish i could zoom out but i still have the floorpan under the center channel, in the rear section. Cause right now i am just getting the car read for the front floor pan, which by the way is the hardest of the two pans to get out. Oh and lol i know, its one of the first digi cams ever, 98 or so, anyway its my dads work camera and i just use it for snap shots to post.

alright went out again and took the picture right side up, hope these help

Thanks guys for the input. Brad, once the center tunnel is cut out, I would weld in a replacement from a donor car? I haven't seen anyone making reproductions for the tunnel. What is your thought on the cross member? How about just adding some type of metal patch after cleaning up the rusted edges?
