Full Version: Specific stock exhaust system recommendations

I posted this question in the "what did you do to your 914 today" but wanted to get a little more exposure so I made a new thread.

I have a 71 with a Monza exhaust system.

I want to take the Monza off and put a stock system in place so I can use the stock rear valence with the hole for the tip so the car looks totally stock.

There seems to be infinite systems available. I want stock sound to go with the look too.

I'm looking for specific suggestions and recommendations with links, part numbers and suppliers if possible.

This looks to be an easy bolt on job? Is that correct?

This is all new to me trying to make sense of it all!

Here are some pictures.

Would also like your feedback on the condition of my heat exchangers. Are they shot?

If yes, please advise as above with as much specific sourcing info as possible.

Oh and in the few days that I've been a part of this forum everyone who has responded to my nube posts has been great. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get up to speed on the 914!

Yes, the heat exchangers are probably shot.
I would get stainless steel heat exchangers and muffler.
1.7 heat exchangers sell for 200-400
I sell the 1.7 stainless steel side exhaust muffler for $550.
Lighter and better performance than the old Monza muffler (I had one on my car years ago) and should last a lifetime.

I think 2 members here are selling a 1.7/1.8 SS H.E. for around $350.

How does the ss 1.7 muffler compare to the stock muffler? Louder? Thanks!
