So I am working on my 71. Removed the seats. Found a 1965 quarter and this button from the Original owner's sport coat. Im paid back at least 25 cents, and depending on the silver content, maybe .30!!

What did you find when you took out the seats, anything good?Click to view attachment

no silver in 1965

Out of 3 914's I've gotten old pencils, pens, coins, a spent .38 casing, business cards, keys..........you name it. These items are sacred to your car's being. This bounty is aka Ju-Ju. If removed you may experience unnatural mechanical maladies. I have a small baggie it the glove box of all 3 containing those items. shades.gif

In my current project car, I found a fews coins, a bunch of cheap plastic beads from a broken necklace, and some bits of glitter-confetti.

Back in the 90s, as I took apart another 914 that turned into a race car, I found a 14k gold corporate pin (Texas Instruments).

Roach clips were very popular in the days of our little cars!

The white 914 I gave to Mark of 914Rubber had unopened packages of rubbers and perfume. Guessing the perfume didn’t work or they forgot to use the rubber.

A syringe, a spoon and a lighter. I didn’t get stuck thank God but it did send chills down my spine. It was a customers car bought at auction!

Scored! smilie_pokal.gif While digging around in an old junkyard Ford Escort in the 80's I found a very nice Gerber folding knife. I still have it. It really takes and keeps an edge.

I found nothing in my six when I changed the interior from the ugly custom grey/black velour to OEM 74 cinnamon. When I decided to detail the LE I found a quarter under the driver's seat, ironically a 74, which must have fallen from my Dad's pocket. It never leaves the car, ever.

I found a police ticket from the original owner. Apparently he got busted for being left of the centerline.

Not a 914 but I found a mint 1966 5 phenning coin in my 1967 (1966 build date) VW bus, under the glued in underseat mats.

I found a 1973 Kennedy half dollar in my 1973 914. It had a green patina to it which was strange. Kind of thought it was cool and put it on display near the shifter. Then I bought the same year Kennedy half dollar for all my old cars. Pretty funny.

Oh and one other thing I just remembered..... I drove my just purchased 914 home a few years ago and the recent previous owner called me and asked me if he could have his $2,000 in small bills that was stuffed under the front seat. Apparently he liked all this cash to travel to Mexico to purchase something. Didn't really ask but I gave it back to him.

I’ve found all kinds of things under the seats in the many 914’s I’ve purchased. I found a small empty vile and a syringe in the white 74 but couldn’t determine what it was. I always show my wife how much coinage I find to rant about not paying the asking price! Most I’ve found is a bag of quarters in a pouch under the seat of my 308 ! It was about $15 worth if I recall. Made me feel great !

And what will you leave for the next person who moves the seats?

We found this Lufthansa to LAX tag under the drivers seat of 1970 #40 Sonauto; and this cool Toyota pliers in the '74 current build proj 9148-gtt. Nothing under the '74 black bi-turbo (new at dealer), and just small change in the '74 2L ( bought at the Ventura Show).

From a car that was last on the road in the early 1990's I found a brand new pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses (from the 1980's), still in the box, as well as three dollars and several roaches in the ashtray. If parts count, in the trunk was also a nice set of stainless steel heat exchangers.

On a parts trip to the self service salvage yard I once pulled the trim around a radio and found several high value BART (our local transit train) tickets totaling over $200. They used to sell (and maybe still do) these high value tickets at a very slight discount for those of us that took BART on a regular basis. Looks like the PO was in the habit of tucking them in the trim around the radio and some of them fell in. Beats me why they weren't smart enough to stop doing it, or couldn't figure out that the trim popped off without any tools and in less than a few seconds. I got to commute for free for a while!

I found a letter from a girl to her boyfriend trying to get him back. There was a dollar bill as a peace offering. He never unsealed the envelope. I still have it for some reason.
