Hi all
I recently drove my 74 Porsche 914 2.0 on a hot day and the car would not start after driving. I thought maybe vapor Lock. Drove it yesterday and it was 78degrees and the same thing happened. Normally drives amazing. After driving, stalled at the traffic light. Then would just turn over but no start. Do you think it’s vapor lock? After 15min it started up and I was on my way
Thanks for the advice

Start with the easy stuff.

Engine Temp Sensor is where I would start.

It sounds like it could be the fuel filter. After a bit of sitting, enough fuel seeps trough to get it running for a bit till it staves out.

Is it still fuel injected?

Where is the fuel pump in the front or the rear?
Ebradley
Yes, original fuel injection. Fuel pump in stock location. Car gas 109,000 original miles

That does sound like the typical symptoms of vapor lock.

Hook a fuel pressure gauge to it and verify it is loosing fuel pressure when the problem happens.

The fix is to move the pump up front. If you do move it, then replace the fuel lines with a set of the stainless steel Tangerine lines. The old plastic lines have been known to fail and cause engine fires.

If that happens again try flooring it to see if it will catch, same thing happened in my Saab 99 which uses the same system.

Not a fix, but might get you back and running faster.
