Looking to see if there is a good place to get my fuel tank refurbished. I have the POR kit, but just a little skeptical and didn’t know if it would be better to send it out and have it redone or if anyone knows of a better kit.

FINALLY intending to get my teener back on the road after 17 years off. Many things I’d love to do before hand, but I’m at the point where I just want to get it back on the road and enjoy it and damn the cosmetics!

Recently drove a customers 1.8L after installing factory FI back on it and it reminded me of how much fun these cars are! It hopefully gave me the kick in the ass to start back on mine!

Thanks!

If you take it to a radiator shop to get cleaned out, make sure they don’t cut a hole in the tank.

Last week, I dropped my tank off at the last remaining radiator shop in Tucson that also does gas tanks. They quoted $125 for cleaning and painting the outside, and were VERY strongly against any internal coating. Once I get the tank back I can report on results.

New tanks are available.

Yeah, I didn’t realize new ones were still available. I just figured they weren’t due to the age and build numbers. It’s cheaper than a new one for my Fiat 2000, which I never thought I’d say about a Porsche part!

As for radiator shops, I don’t think there are any in the Charlottesville area, but I’ll check.

What about lining a new tank with POR? I’ve read mixed reviews and just curious as to what the general consensus is. Some seem to say it works great and others seem to have issues. Does it just come down to application error or is it something that will be an issue down the road?

Thanks for all of the replies!

Why would you want to line a new tank?
Zaffer
Didn’t know if it would help with keeping corrosion down as I’m sure the new tank is untreated metal inside. While the car will get driven, it’ll mainly be a fair weather car so winters will see it sitting more. I know I should fill it with gas before storing it, however that doesn’t prevent all corrosion.
