I honestly have no clue how to remove this radio. I’ve been stumped for three days about. I’m trying to remove the dash top as I’m stripping the entire car, but I can’t find out what to do to get the radio out to reach the other nuts. Any suggestions?

I think the problem is your whole dash is upside down.

I think the faceplate is removable on those.
Then you need the tool that would be something like this Kenwood tool.

But shoot that’s just gonna be annoying. I’ll try it, but I was hoping to do it without buying a tool. Oh well, it’ll be the first of many dollars spent I suppose!

Most replacement radio's come with some skinny metal pieces that slide in along the sides to trip some tabs to allow the radio to slide out, if the face is removable, that will have to come off first to get proper access.

I found some destructions for Kenwood of that era.

Sometimes I have able to get them to release with a thick feeler gauge, a thin screwdriver, or making a rough tool from sheet metal.

I believe That trim plate is clipped on. Squeeze the upper ends to while pulling toward you. Then you be pushing some shims in at the sides of the exposed stereo.
That underside pic shows it’s a slide in mount that surrounds the circumference of the stereo chassis.
1. Remove front trim plate
2. Disconnect antenna and wire harness
3. Push Two pieces of flat sheet stock (tin can thickness) to disengage the shroud sides of the stereo
4. Push from the bottom of the stereo after the two shims have been pushed in about 1/2 to 3/4” inches
5. Stereo should slide out towards you.
6. Remove that rectangular frame
BTDT on the different stereo head units I’ve changed out over the years.

Yes, you need to turn the car over and get two of them tools. I think the plastic trim on the outer edge pops off to expose where the tool go in.

I had to do that too but when I looked at the back from the back getting your head in that cramped area I saw that all I had to do was to bend some thin metal back there to have it slide out. Did NOT use a special took when was supposed to be used

Oh yeah, I found that after realizing the face plate comes off. Thanks a lot, I appreciate the help!
