I've got a car in the shop that I'm finishing a 6 conversion on.

I seem to remember someone here making a cable type throttle linkage. I've used Rich Johnson's before, and have a kit here, but looking for an easier way.

Thanks in advance!

I am curious how well it works but that actually work better then the factory setup.

I'd like to hear from someone who's got one on a car, and how well it works.

I filled out the PMS contact form (after 9 pages of Capcha), so I'll be curious to know what they say

I think sirAndy uses one on his 3.6

I installed this kit on my /6 Kermee after suffering multiple failures of the $100 coat hanger due to vibration stress cracking the rod at the point it is brazed into the curved center arch. It takes the cable directly through the firewall to a new bellcrank that you install on the rotating shaft between the carbs. Their link shows the pedal end...here is the engine end....

The installation on my track/race car is typically crude, I think you could dress it up a bit in a street application.
Note that any "direct" cable linkage to the throttle control will change the dynamic response versus the OEM bellcrank system. The angle of those bellcranks allows a slight opening of the throttle plates during the initial pedal travel, then progressively more as the pedal travel continues toward WFOT...Not a big issue in racing but might be a bit bothersome in a pure street application--YMMV.

The whole logic of the carb stock(-ish) linkage is to keep the cable in as straight line as possible. Once you start making the cable turn tight corners is when you start into binding issues.

That is correct, i have the PMS throttle cable.

Not sure if i have any pictures of the setup but it is simply making a loop up and into the engine compartment through the same slit in the engine tin where the hard linkage would go.

It's been on there for 14 years now without any issues.

Alright, found two images, not the best detail but you get the general idea.

Cable on the right making a loop going up:

Just did a 6 conversion with Weber Carbs and REP intakes with the standard throttle position. I had a new 4 cable and didn't want to screw around building something so I splurged on the slightly expensive (all relative) PMS 6 cable about 4 months ago. Fairly straight forward it seemed but:

1) it doesn't have the nylon sheath that other cables seems to have for within the tunnel. Not that it's a big deal but now you possibly have a raw cable rubbing up against whatever in the tunnel

2) no matter what I did the cable was about 1.5" too long from their bell housing adapter and mount position on the 901 bell housing so maybe designed for 915 trans and it's is slightly different and it fits better?. I had no more adjustment on either end to make up the slack even if I changed to shorter "snap' fittings.

In the end I used it and just made my own version of the real 6 throttle linkage.

Here is the easy 10min installation of their cable and routing (but ended up with too much cable and not enough adjustment). You make a loop up to the top of the bell housing and use the bell housing nut for their little adapter/cable lock (nothing more than flat stock with a slot for the cable)

In the end I used the cable and just made a 6 style throttle adapter. I think is a lot stiffer/firm but I like a harder pedal. Very similar to my early 911 (since it's very much the same items)

I see this setup in the future, plan on using a motorbike clutch cable or similar ,not fussed with my current system and know it will work better, will mount off g/box as last poster has done.

I find it easier to just call PMS. They can make it much easier than the website process.

Thanks for the replies! I’ve always been a “as close to factory” kinda guy but this project can needs to be as easy as possible. Now if we can find some good carbs

Perry, Ferg mentioned having a few sets of 6 carbs in another thread.

Perry i bought the Patrick Motorsports Cable because i didn't want to deal with the "Rube Goldberg" original linkage deal. Haven't installed it yet. Soon though as you know. It looks well made with an a nice insulated cable housing. Ill send you some photos if you want to see it?

There are reasons the factory had a bell crank. My 2.7 CIS comes up using a 4-cyl cable. It routes very similar to any L-Jet or D-Jet, but I might still swap it for a bell crank system.

@Ferg do you have some 3 barrel carbs to sell?
