Budget?

Budget?

Looking for a project, based on my $5-10k budget. I'm reserving a healthy portion for working on the car I buy. That said, I'm adding about 1k/month to my budget. I figured it might take at least a few months to find what I was after.

My highest priority is the cleanest body I can afford.

Chris -- thanks for posting this one!

Of the two cars, I'd actually like to know more about the 1974 parts car. If it's solid and the guy will include one of the two transmissions he has (and any of the "extra parts" he mentions that it might need), I might be more inclined to buy that one. Might you have time to take a look at it this week, in person?

There are many members near there.
@Tygaboy is in that area and seems to be a very helpful and knowledgeable member. Possibly pm him or post in the garage a request for someone local to look at it for you.
Good luck with your search

Thanks for offering Chris. I apologize, but this is an example of me getting myself distracted from what I should be focusing on: a decent driver that doesn't need as much as work as either of those two cars. Let's hold off unless/until I spot one in your area that's a realistic option for me to buy.

Again, thanks for your help!

Are you familiar with this particular car? Know the owner?
yellowporky
nope. just forwarding the listing from craigslist to you

Thanks for your help.

I just got a shipping quote from one of the online brokers and it may be $2k or more to ship from CA to Michigan. I may need to wait a while to get a car from that part of the country

Just saw a 3 owner Copper with extras in Denver, CO on FB 914World yesterday, but it might have sold quickly. Check it out, you never know.

I saw that this morning too, but it was out of range for my budget at the moment.

I wonder how the cowl got so rusty. That area is a bitch to restore.

I've been wondering about how rusty cowls get repaired and repaired well. Even if I had metal skills, I'm not sure that this car would be the best starting point for the price? If there's rust like that on the cowl, I assume that the rust elsewhere might be quite severe and pervasive.

Usually rust start at the bottom where water collects and works it's way up. The iceberg effect. You only see 10%

Check the samba. Most on there now are outside of your budget and on the west coast. Brad Mayuer 914LTD out of Illinois has some once in a while, customer cars. Most of all be patient. It took me a year to find the right car. Good luck.

Thanks for your tips and encouragement. I've been watching the samba but didn't know that Brad M might be a potential source. As time passes, I'm growing more patient and my budget increases.

I just posted my 914 for sale here:

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...p;#entry2893220

I think it might be exactly what you are looking for. It's a California car (at least since I've had it for nearly 20 years)

It appears that I have a line on one which seems to be a great fit for me, but thanks for reaching out. Yours would be a solid start for so many project options and there is no shortage of project ideas in this community!

I have found one that may take some time to acquire. Thanks for your help everyone!

@MM1 & @GBX0073 , thanks--very excited that I could buy one that checks all the boxes for me!

It's the ravenna green car in the pic I posted. I am working on the logistics of getting it home and will post more pics and details when it arrives.
