Would a 911 steering shaft fit?

If it is for a 914/4 I have a few.

Im unsure but is a fair bet it would from a comparable year car as it looks like the U-joints are the same part # on 914 & 911

If I recall, Rory had an issue with his car because there are different size shafts for early and late. I think it’s because the early cars used longer u joints. I think the 911 one is different as well.

Early 911 shafts are 1mm larger in diameter.
Even amoung 914 there are different lenght. Shafts. You may need to extend the crosscut for the the bolt to prevent binding of the shaft. After installing turn the wheel to make sure there is no binding.

Let me check what I have.
What I remember is that there are two lengths for 4 cyl. cars.
The shorter one is suitable for 6 cyl. cars.
Please comment if know better.

If the early fours and sixes used the longer U joints then the shorter rod makes sense. I just didn't piece it together until now.

When first driving my GT car I had a bind in each rotation of the steering wheel.
After plenty of disassembly of the newly assembled car I found the issue.
There are two different length steering shafts, the longer one is 358mm and
as I recall the shorter is ~352mm. Another difference is the shorter one has the
recesses for the cinch bolt 'in line' On the longer shaft they
are not in line
I removed the long one, installed the shorter one...problem solved.
The issue could have been from one, the other, or both differences.
A load was bearing on the universal joints.

It measures 33 inches on the dot.
