Recently picked up a tangerine '68 912 with a whale tail!
Whale tail was removed, but several holes remain in the original deck lid.
Going to put on a fiberglass deck lid, but no way I can color match the tangerine.
Was thinking of maybe painting it willow green?

Also going to replace the hail damaged front and rear deck lids on the willow green 914.
Same story, probably can't color match the willow green.
How about tangerine lids on the 914?

IMO, keep it black.

Willow green will need something else (like the hood) painted green to tie it together.

And green and "red" is going to make your car look like a Christmas ornament.

I agree, black will coordinate with most any color. aktion035.gif

A good shop should be able to get a good color match. You will pay for it, but I think in the long run you will be more happy with the results too.

agree.gif I would definitely spend a few extra bucks to have the whole car match. If it was a rat rod/outlaw then different colors would look ok but that car looks too nice to turn into a rat rod.

Those aren’t quite complementary colors. Need more blue/green .

As for black, I put an unfinished duck on my 930, it’s black. My buddies and I all feel it went a little boy racer in looks... it’ll go gpwhite when I get a chance. The original whale will go back after restoration...

These days it’s easy to get some high quality vinyl wrap and test out your ideas.

I agree about removing that tail.

Hard to argue with your presentation!

What about light yellow?
For the 914 and 912 lids?
Kinda keeping a fruit theme. beerchug.gif

Looks like you stole someone’s ducktail and stuck it on your car.
