Any tips and or tricks for replacing the rear wheel bearings without removing the trailing arms?

If you will need alignment, I think it is better to just remove the suspension arm. Easy to remove the bearing and safer.

You can rent a slide hammer hub puller from Autozone (and probably other FLAPS) for free that makes pulling that hub a breeze. i think pulling the hub is easier done with the trailing arm on the car myself.

I have a Harbor Freight Front Drive Wheel Bearing Removal kit that worked great for removing and installing the bearing. Again, I think just as easy on the car as off. Unfortunately it looks like the price of that kit has gone up quite a bit since I bought mine but I've used it on both my 914 and our Honda CRV DD so it has easily paid for itself.

Freeze the Fag bearings overnight then have a can of aerosol keyboard cleaner handy when installing. Flip the can upside down and empty half on each bearing - the gas comes out as a sub zero stream that will reduce the mass of the bearing enough to slide it into the race without much pounding. Do this in Texas today and you can skip the freezer part..........
