Full Version: What front offset for Fuchs on 914/6 narrow body?

My 914-6 conversion will have ‘79 911 Bilstein struts, ‘79 911 hubs and ‘84-89 911 calipers and rotors. I’m keeping the narrow body and want to run 15x7 Fuchs. I see a couple of offsets advertised. I need to get the wheels before I get the front suspension assembled so I can continue to move the car around and not tie up the lift.

I have the new struts and hubs, but not the brake components. If you see an issue there, let me know.

While you can fit a 7x15 up front (it will rub the inside fender well) the larger issue is getting the 7x15 to fit in the back. The rear fenders are tighter. Some get them to fit with no issues.. others need to "massage" quite a bit.

Your car is "early" offset.. so, a 7x15, et (offset) 23 would fit.

"late" offset is 1987 944 and newer. They have et's in the 45-60 range.

All fitment larger than a 6x15, et36 will come down to items like:

1) Ride height
2) Alignment
3) stiffness (spring/torsion bar rate)
4) tire size
5) "massaging" - rolling lips to pulling the fenders to adding flares.

I don’t mind rolling the fenders, but definitely don’t want flares.

If 15x6 is “safe” is there any compelling reason to go with 7” width. Wasn’t thinking wider than 205. Would the wheel width make that much of a difference?

I have 205/60/15s on both of my narrow-bodied 914s with no rubbing except perhaps for some minor rubbing on the front inner fender well at full steering lock. Fenders are not rolled or modified. Wheels are 15x6 Mahles on the LE and 15x6 5 lug Fuchs on the 3.2L conversion. I've purchased a set of 16x6 Fuchs with the same 36mm offset for the 3.2L and they currently have 205/50/16s mounted.

205x60x15 on 6x15 Fuchs fit great on 99% of 914’s. 7’s can give you issues, especially in back.

Mostly aesthetics as folks seem to like the "deeper dish" of the wider wheel. Even with a 7, most can't fit more than a 205 tire without "massaging" the fenders.
