Seller had it listed on CL but went ahead and sold it to pick-n-pull. confused24.gif Maybe a complete car, maybe good for parts, just passing the info.

Good hunting...

He said Oakland but must have meant:

Pick-N-Pull
(510) 233-7341 1015 Market Ave
Richmond, CA

He is from Alameda...

if you gget the motor, get the tranny too... he had to flip one or the other to make it work... and the tranny was probably easier...

reverse cam.

or reversed ring on the tranny...

or just a 911 tranny
bd1308
flipped diff introduces other possible weaknesses. reverse cam is the way to go. Dr evil used to have a corvair motor.....

dunno about the 911 tranny though. makes sense.

Grab the whole freekin thing...

I bet pick and pull would be glad to get rid of it....

Tried to do that once. No dice. Once they're tagged for salvage, they legally can't sell the whole car.
Andyrew
pick and pull in modesto has cars that are for sale...

interesting.

When they get a car, they make the decision to sell whole or parts. Once they choose parts, they fill out paperwork with DMV, and it stops being a car and becomes parts. I once saw a car in the off limits area that hadn't been moved to the yard yet. They had already filed the paperwork, so I couldn't buy it.

Man if I was a Junkyard owner I'd just keep all of them as cars, so if some nut came and wanted some beat up wreck, he could buy it.

Has anyone verified that this car is at the Richmond pick-n-pull and available for parts pulling?

Why? 911 Transmissions run that direction. Mike was rebuilding the motor anyway so he used the reverse cam. I tried to convince him to use the reversed differential.

Sorry Royce, there is an Oakland PNP as you found out too late:

OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA
8451 San Leandro St.
Oakland, CA 94621

Here's link for future ref: http://picknpull.com/

Ok, I have indeed verified that there is NOT a 914 in the Richmond pick-n-pull. I did not get to the Oakland one in time. Do any people more local (it's a 4 hour drive for me) care to see if it's in the yard? I may make the trek again if it looks to be worth it.

911 transmissions run in the exact same direction as a 914 transmission. The only difference is the locaiton of the ring gear. That is why it drives in the opposite direction. Even in reverse the input shaft runs the same direction, and the pinion shaft is turned in reverse at low speed , and for a short time only.

If you reverse the rotation of the input shaft on a transmission, every internal part runs in the opposite direction. The shafts have thrust bearings that take the load caused by the helical cut gears. If you reverse the rotation of the shafts, you are running against surfaces that were not designed to take a thrust load.

The only proper way to make a Corvair motor to a 901 transmission is to install a reverse rotation cam in the Corvair motor.

Cap'n.. Can I get your input on this????

yea smilie_pokal.gif i remembered right.
