i think you are still going to get just the right amount of induction noise from the snorkel pointed at your back. not too loud, just pleasantly "informative". even the wimp mobile L jet 1.8s manage to make a goodish/sort of induction noise via the snorkel. yours is going to sound very satisfying.
I didn't really think about that. I know I'm weird, but "just the right amount of induction noise" for me is zero. I find this world way too noisy thanks to people already so any dB I can eliminate, the better. I'll run with this and see how it sounds. The snorkel is the easiest part to fabricate so I've already prepared to fiddle with other configurations if needed. I originally wanted to add a resonator to quiet things down even more and may do that at some point. There is also a possibility of adding an electric choke that originally came with these bus air boxes. I decided to KISS for now.

Here is a similar setup that is very pricy, but a lot less work
https://www.ahnendorp.com/VW-Type-4---Porsc...tml?language=enYes! I took a lot of inspiration from that design. I cannot find the pic now, but
@rgolia has one installed and it is most definitely dead sexy
It is for sure a great plug and play alternative.
That design did miss several check marks on my ridiculous wish list though. As sexy as it is, it definitely looks aftermarket to my eye. I wanted a design that left people scratching their head for a few seconds trying to figure out what they were looking at. It also doesn't use the stock filter element. Not a big deal but it does make sourcing replacement elements easier. Also, it doesn't look like you can access the tops of the carbs without tools. A minor thing, but it was on my wish list.
Most importantly, at the time I started this, I had more time than money to put into the build and am kind of obsessed with meta shaping, especially with minimal tools, and thought this might be a good project for learning some new skills.
