Hey guys, went for a cruise the other night,
I believe I shifted into reverse instead of 2nd coming up to a stop, going about 5mph. dry.gif
Little grind, caught it quick and proceeded.
Later, going to back out of the driveway, I no longer have reverse.

Goes into all 5 forward gears fine. I can put it in the reverse gate area, let the clutch out, nothing happens. Just a “whirring” sound from the transmission.

I have a spare transmission, which I wanted to swap to anyways. (Much cleaner)
I already have the transmission removed (needed to pull the motor for a few small things)

Anything I should look for? I popped the Rear Cover (#5 in Haynes) off, not seeing any obvious wear on the 1st/Reverse twin gear. (#9 in Haynes)

I don’t think it’s a RLO issue it clicked right into the reverse on the lever.

Any ideas are appreciated.
Cheers!

Edit: Tail shift. 1971.

If the motor is still installed in the chassis

I'd put the transmission into reverse by hand (no shift linkage) and see if the car has reverse...

your problem could be a linkage one, and not internal to the trans
