Saw this interesting shock mounting on the 914-6 GT M471 build currently on BAT. Seems they lowered the rear shock mounting positions welder.gif . I am assuming to get the shock to be in a better sweet spot having the chassis lowered.

Never seen this mod before. Comments...

it looks like they did that to drop the car about an inch without having to get coilovers while also keeping full shock travel. It looks like its set a bit back compared to stock likely making it a little softer from mechanical advantage. Interesting solution though!

It is sitting on coil overs so it would be easy to drop the rear end any height. Still wondering why the effort to drop the shock mount. It would put the piston a bit closer to the center of the shock which would be a good thing.

Suprisingly the trailing arms don't appear to be reinforced in a visible way.
I wonder if the mount change was for a handling benefit.

It allows them to run lower ride height and still have travel in the shock without bottoming out.
The shorter shock would be an alternative.

Changes the motion ratio of the wheel end with respect to spring and damper.

Generally speaking it will make the spring and damper less linear and less effective due to increased inclination of the assembly.

Hard to say whether that is net positive or net negative depeding on tuning of the suspension, ride height, and intended use.

Should have left that car orange.
