Why not just use lockwashers, do they make "cupped" lockwashers?

Gee, I wonder if 914 lug nuts regularly see 1600-1800dF temperatures. Maybe it's only those high-power 911s...

Car wax is very important for aerodynamics...

I look at Jack Olsen's car, and I drool... and then I remember...

'he's one of them'...

I just had to shit in their campfire.

Is it just me, or do some 911 owners like to blab alot? I have never seen such long threads about car wax, the right lug nuts to use, large discussions on wiper blades... etc.

LOL, Blab? I thought this board was OT blab central?

The Pelican 911 board is IMO one of the best Porsche discussion boards out there. Sure a few owners are into bling but there are also many more highly technical discussions.

I knew a guy who used Johnson's Baby Shampoo to remove WD-40 from some aluminum trim, I don't know if it's safe to use on lugs though.

ok, then answer me this:

why would/should i put anti seize on my lug nuts?
what's the reasoning behind that?

So you can torque them to spec, and remove them when you need to, in 6 months, instead of risking the thingy snappin' off.

DamN! These cars came from Germany! You are supposed to have all the answers!

first off you wouldnt put the anti sieze on the lug nut..

you might apply a small boogers worth to the stud in the area where the lug nut grips.

The anti sieeze helps those people who only remove the wheel when they have to, ie every two or three years for brake pad replacement, or the occasional flat.

We who swap wheels with some sort of frequency dont need anti sieze.

What cracks me up is the Nth degree which something quite simple is analyzed..

Bolted connections, Welding, Structural analysis are my lively hood. If you reduce the friction between elements of a fastener the torque applied will be less than a dry set of fasteners

I have had a lug nut seize on me...

But that was at pick and pull... On a camero that was sitting there for 2 years, and I was getting the wheels for a friends camero.

good times...

not.

Dont use the stuff btw....

I've seen more than a few alloy nuts leave the bottom end of the face on the wheel and it's a BITCH to get the curved part off.....doesn't happen if the nuts come off and on on a regular basis....or if you use anti-seize.....

Two of the cars I have use steel open head nuts....thinking of doing it with the 911 as well. Easy way to chinger up a nice Fuch having to chisel off half an alloy nut that came apart.

WATER MUST BE VERY HEAVY!

Brando
Unlike some of you with 911 or real 914-6 5-lug setups, us 4-lug bolt guys do have serious siezing issues with our lug bolts. Ever have a circa 1970s car with lug bolts that won't undo? It's not like we get aluminum Lug-bolts that don't oxidize. Steel rusts together. That is the point of anti-sieze compound on steel-to-steel surfaces under load.
