Happy Sunday everyone. After much searching we found a very nice suby for my son. Its an 09 2.5. What pitfalls should I be on the look out for besides head gaskets?

How many miles does it have and what kind of money are you looking to pay for it?

If the car is in great shape and there's service records that are complete, it's not a bad price but you'll be looking at replacing the timing belt almost immediately. So far as the head gaskets go, I'd let them be until they're giving you issues. When you drop the radiator for the t-belt, make sure to buy the factory coolant additive which is only available at the dealer...it's 2 bucks. Really! It saves problems down the road. I bought my 2000 Impreza with 105k and the records were good...I replaced the belt at 180k and I'm getting ready for another one now that I've got 270k trouble free miles. My engine is the 2.2 which has a better reputation than the 2.5 but they're still not a bad engine.
Good luck!

It sounds like a decent buy and I'd still get the coolant additive from the dealer and drop it in the radiator. Another dose won't hurt anything and it's cheap insurance. If you can document that it was already put in, you're good to go concerning that. Any other service records will help as well.
