My starter was acting up so I thought I’d pull it out and have it rebuilt. Turns out that the top bolt is a real pain to remove. I got it loose with a crows foot, but after a battle. I’m pulling out the stud and planning to use a bolt with an allen head. I’m assuming most people assemble the starter when the engine is out of the car and it easy to access.

I'm doing a conversion with an engine that addressed this.
The stud was cut off at the proper length to use a M10 socket head nut on the starter. The stud is really long and not easy to source.

Even an Allen head is a PITA because part of the bosch starter body is in the way of the socket/extension.
I installed a Hi-torque starter which I noticed it has a straight shot for a hex or allen on an extension. But I haven't had to remove the starter to try it yet and have only R&R it with the engine out.
