Okay, the great butyl rope debate. The factory manual calls for 5/16" rope caulk but I've read that aftermarket glass is thinner so 3/8" is the better size. My XYG glass is 3/16" thick and the windshield flange is recessed 1/2" below the frame. That means 5/16" rope would perfectly bring the surface of the glass flush with the frame and 3/8" would leave it 1/16" proud BEFORE the "squish" to set the glass into the caulk. But then there is the trim which is another 1/16" thick so the 3/8" caulk would have to squish 1/8" for the trim to wind up flush.

That seems like a lot and I'd rather have the trim slightly recessed than slightly proud if I can have perfectly flush. I'm leaning toward the 5/16" caulk but thought I'd see what y'all think. What have others used on their XYG glass and what was the result. Thanks! beerchug.gif
