Full Version: Is one carb on a 73 1.7 ok
Looking at a 73 1.7 with one carb. Is this a deal breaker?
Not a deal breaker if that’s the only kludged repair the PO did. Look for other band aid repairs. If all is ok then it should at least reduce the price by the cost to replace that carb. If not, don’t buy it.

Not a deal breaker if the rest of the car checks out. The single carb can easily be replaced.
There are 3 major issues you need to look out for:
- Rust
- Corrosion
- Fe2O3•32H2O

I’ve had 2 914, but both f I.isn’t adding 2 carbs without cam change problematic?

It's only problematic if you are expecting to gain performance by adding carbs to an engine with a FI cam.
It will run just fine, just not as good as with the original FI in good working order. Plus, now you have to deal with re-jetting every time you dive up/down a mountain.
Two carbs, not oversized, are significantly better than one.
