Who makes the best complete seat recovering kits?

I need to reupholstery a pair of black vinyl brick pattern '73 seats.

Please include a link to buy/view in your recommendation. I'm finding that it appears many places are out of stock at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

Ditto on Autos International. Sourced material from them, then had an excellent local shop redo my backpad. Pretty basic upholstery work once you have the material you want.

@ndfrigi Very familiar with 914 Rubber. Have placed several orders with them. Love their parts and service.

But per my post above, many places are out of the black vinyl factory look kits right now. I'm looking for the original stacked brick black vinyl kits for my '73.

I don't see that as available on their site at the moment:

Once again, Ian comes through. I recently used his CV tutorial, worked like a charm, but did use a couple drops of engine oil for assembly.
Thanks for posting Ian!

very expensive to recover, so make sure you buy exact material made to the original exact patterns.

@iankarr Indeed! I book marked that one a few months back when I found it on FB. It inspired me to give it a go. Found a lot of old threads here on 914 World that I bookmarked as well. Just need to pick a kit and place my order.

914 Rubber is out so I can't use the same kits you did.

The technique is all the same. The most important tool is patience. Upholstery takes time.

914 Rubber ..............
Just picked up an early brickmold pair last Friday.
Call and talk to Scott.

Looked like 10 kits came in.

Watching my guy, Ben.
It's more like art work.

Yes we have a hard time keeping them in stock. We have more for now, the real key for these is the metal hold down tabs. regardless of where you buy the seat cover kits just know we have these - Individually and in full kits.

I'll also check to make sure we get these up on the site. we do have customers that swing buy and buy them before we even get them listed like.....Cary

Totally agree with @mikey914 . The hardware and hold down barbs are frequently rusted and really should be replaced as part of the refurb...

Yea, it’s frustrating to get the seat cover mostly done and have a couple break off. They only bend 3-4 times before they break.
When you remove the old vinyl you want to open them up as little as possible if you plan to reuse them. If it’s been recovered once already, they really need replacement.

@mikey914 Cary, good to know. I tried calling today at 430 PM ET. Left a voicemail for your attention on how to order since they're not listed on your site. I left my phone number for you to call me back at your convenience.

My .02, the quality of any kit can be determined by the thickness of the material as well as the faithfulness to the grain & pattern.
The thinner the material, in general will be the inferior.
The reason is the stitching HAS to be wider which then shows in the seams when the cover is stretched & steamed into place.
The OE material was pretty thick which allowed tighter stitching than kits Ive seen recently.

Why did not just have them do reupholster the seats?

Good question.... I have a habit of collecting parts and installing them at a later date. I live about an hour from Autos International. They do good work and I should of at least gotten a quote, but instead I just used a shop a mile away.

I used the 914Rubber kit - it was pretty straight forward and turned out great. I followed this thread which really helped:
