been sitting for 30 years.
he gets pestered by kombi kooks that spot its oxidising hulk over the fence.

the motor lurking in the kombi is apparently a fully worked over unit.
top spec circa 1975.

deep down he is a ford man. dabbles in "stoff".

but even henry's gtho super roos can't blow doors off some german steel and he's got one. the krauts chauffered neil armstron buzz aldrin and good old mike collins around in these in germany after the moon drop. i know the guy who drove one of them around. he lives here now. he can't remember which one. he is in his late 80s. merc test driver. what an era.

i''ll track it down.
it was on the forecourt of an interesting little enterprise.
a community co-op garage where people seem to work on their own cars, with assistance from a mechanic.
need to find out more but the garage/workshop is a novel set up i believe.
didn't have enough time to stop but next time i go past i will drop in and ask them about it.

it had no plates on it.
my guess is its a fresh import. sheeplove.gif

In Los Angeles county, back in the 70-80's there were places that would fix it for you for one price, help you for another price or rent you a lift. They stayed open into the wee hours and Covina auto parts and a few others were 24 hours. A great deal when you broke down, have work the next day and need your car running. If you called they would meet the tow truck. Nice to see one, insurance killed them here. I had a 300 CD turbodiesel. I loved that car

spotted another in australia.

got visited today by the secretary of the 356 club down at the workshop.
drove up in his 914. doesn't own a 356. typically australian, like being president of the ford club and driving a monaro.
he was trying to bend my arm to join the arse dragger society. KMA.gif

i knew the car and its original aus owner 30 years ago in 1991/92.
car is still going strong. think there has been three owners between then and now.
california - melbourne - melbourne - brisbane - melbourne.
