A former owner of my 914-6 told me about a "Les Checel" tuning kit that was fitted at Stoddard Import in 1972 by Bob Nikel there. The spelling may be wrong, but I can find nothing on Les Checel. Anyone remember the name?

No, that's the Chuck Stoddard GT-style modifications being done to Chuck's own 914-6. That was done to my car but by a later owner.

The 1st owner had a sort of 'super tune' done to the original 2.0L in about 1972. Apparently "Les Checel" was a PCA member from Northern Ohio that ran a quick 914-6.

Thanks, I don't think I have that Panorama issue. If I can find his contact info maybe he can answer a few questions I have.

Contact the PCA.

I parked next to Les at the Stoddard swap meet and car show in June. He has an orange 914-6 in great condition and a few other Porsche's. He is an active member of the NORPCA.

I have known Les for probably 40+ years. He bought all three of his Porsches brand new and still drives them regularly. In fact I just saw him at Parade a few weeks ago. By the way it was his 50th consecutive parade. Well done Les, doubt that anyone will beat that record.
Stoddard did some really cool things to 914's back in the day. 2.9 engines built by John Truman, mild fender flairs that if you didn't know better you would not notice the flair. Just enough to cover 7" wheels.
Bob Nickel was the service manager for Chuck's dealership in the early 70's and he left there to go to Swickley Porsche outside of Pittsburg. He ended up as owner of the dealership and he passed away a few years ago. He received an original IROC chassis from Stoddard as a bonus one year.
Those were the days.......
