Anybody know if there's a suitable rubber insert replacement for the stock
914-6 spark plug wrench. Mine no longer has enough friction to hold the
plugs, which then fall inside the tin which is quite annoying. I pried out the
existing one to see its shape/size.

Don't know if it's applicable on a six, but on my four I just use the wrench to loosen the plugs until they spin freely, then slip a piece of rubber hose onto the plug and spin it out by hand. Have never lost a plug in the tin since using this method.

Thanks if it comes to that I will try this tip, but I think it might be impossible
at least on #6.

Or buy a cheap spark plug socket from you local auto parts store and take the insert out.

Thanks didn't know those existed. But hoping for somebody to know that a piece
would fit in the real wrench. There's no way to know if the bore size of a
pep-boys socket would be the same as our german stuff.

I layer of heat shrink on the out side may work. Might have to experiment with how much heat to apply.
