Trying to get my 914 1911cc dual dells timed today. Been down for a while.

While setting ignition timing fuel started spraying from the bubbling guy circled here. This is the main air corrector right?

Any idea on cause?



It might be time for me to throw in the towel on setting dual carbs, I know it will never be perfect with hex linkage. But man, it’s frustrating.

(Especially when it was functioning previously - albeit poorly)

Unless we have a pro here in Maryland, that I can trade a case of beer to help set me straight, it might be time to look for a reputable aircooled shop to get this thing timed and running well so I can DRIVE it this fall.

Hi Jared,

IIRC, mine did that when the entire stack (main jet, emulsion tube, and air correction jet) had loosened up--i.e., come slightly unscrewed. You may also want to take out your idle jet and make sure the little o-ring is in good shape.

Sorry, that's all I can think of right now. I'm about 1500 miles from the car and my Dell books headbang.gif

This behavior indicates to me there is too much fuel pressure inside the carb. Might check the float, needle valve etc to make sure it closes properly. If the car sits too long with today’s fuel it is entirely possible that the needle valve seat can get clogged up.

I am guessing that the stack has simply come a bit loose in its bore. The good news is that its easy to check.

If its tight in its bore, then probably the o-ring needs to be replaced or as Rich said the carb is getting too much fuel.

I once had a float jam and had fuel start pouring over the top through my velocity stacks!

@jaredmcginness let us know if making sure that circled bit is fully tightened fixes it.

I will check this afternoon fellas, I am pretty certain it is tight, and the O rings were replaced when the carbs were rebuilt. (less than 120 miles) so this sounds like a float issue.

Those look like the wrong air correction jets for a Dellorto DRLA on a VW motor. Never seen anything like those. Typically the air correction jets stand proud of the base of the carb by a good 2".
