I was disassembling/scrapping some old computer equipment and separating the metal frames from the electronics. Came across an assembly that was riveted together rather than screws. Drilled out some and got to wondering how they do it.

Those look exactly like pop rivets!

That's what I thought too, but the pop-rivets I've used leave a small metal head either in the rivet, or they fall out inside. This is a housing for an electronics circuit board and is closed up when fully assembled/riveted. There are probably 20 rivets on this piece alone. They can't take a chance of a head bouncing around inside so there has to be another way to do it.
