Is the PMS setup the best value to mate a 3.0 engine to the 914 trans?

Probably the best for a 9 bolt crankshaft. For a 6 bolt crank, the 901/914-6 flywheel with 1969 911S clutch.

That's what i started with on my 3.6, it should work just fine for a 3.0

I bought my kit from Kennedy Engineering. It came with the throw out bearing. Looks almost exactly the same otherwise. Idk the current price.

Me Too. But I can drive there and pick it up. I think it was a little less than that sale price, but not much...

Now that you mention it, i'm pretty sure i bought mine from KE as well.
It included the TB but otherwise looks identical to the PMS kit.

There is another alternative.

Get the clutch assembly from a 2.2L 911, Vintage 70-71. It uses the 225mm 9 bolt flywheel and pull type pressure plate, but uses a different disk that mates with a 901. It will bolt on to every engine up to a 3.2 with nothing but factory parts. You have to use the 70-71 911 clutch arm, and you have to move the pivot point in the bellhousing. But the bonus is that you get rid of the pulley on the side of the transmission, and you no longer have any stress on the clutch tube. You can use a 76 911 clutch cable to hook it up. You will have to make a support for the back of the cable housing, but that is simple.

The downside is the throwout bearing is over $300.00 these days.

I know this works. I have it on the old 2.4 engine sitting on the floor of my garage. It works great, and it is all factory parts.

PMS gets them from KEP. I bought my 3.2 conversion clutch and ring gear directly from KEP and saved a couple hundred dollars.

I just sold a completly freshened '70-'71 911 trans (pull type TOB) with a flipped diff.
at Carlisle.
Clay is right..... just about the easiest way to go using all Porsche parts.
Would have been on the road with the 3.0 while I redo the 915/916

Try Stuttgart Muscle. Bot sure if they have the adapter for 3.0 to 901 but he makes a great product and cheaper than Kennedy and Others

I don't think this is correct. The 2.0-2.7 ( and early turbos and Carreras with 3.0L) had a 6 bolt crank shaft. The 3.0SC-3.6 have a 9 bolt crank. Maybe you meant use the older clutch with the later 9 bolt flywheel?

Typo in my part sorry. But the fact is the 225mm pressure plate from a 71 911 will bolt onto a 9 bolt flywheel.

I called up KEP and the lady said the have a 9 bolt fly wheel that can be used with the stock 914 clutch package. So I would get a new flywheel much like the one I have on the 2.7. The price is $360 and they estimated $40 to ship. So $400 is better than PMS.

I can use the new 914 Sach clutch pkg off the 2.7 flywheel.

Something she said on the phone was a little confusing. She said the clutch was 214mm, I thought it was 225mm for the 914.

My brother has that setup on his 3.0 to 901. Stage 1 kit. The disc is 228 mm from a vw bus I believe. Stock 914 disc is 215 MM , 911 is 215 to 71, then goes up to 225.

Does anyone know the weight difference between the 215 and 225/228 MM setups?
Imagine the larger clutch can take more power.

You can lighten the 3.0 flywheel and 914 ring adapter by a few pounds. I did this. I can let you know how much mine weighs when I get back. Of course it's a machinist and more $ @markhoward
